Adjara Supreme Council Chair Says Opposition Expects Tbilisi Mayor to Control Weather Amid Heavy Rainfall

Chairman of the Supreme Council of Georgia’s Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Tsotne Ananidze, has responded to opposition criticism over problems caused by heavy rainfall, saying similar weather-related challenges are being experienced in cities around the world.

“From Tokyo to Tbilisi, heavy rainfall and the challenges associated with it are being experienced. We saw municipal employees working tirelessly during the severe rain,” Ananidze wrote on social media.

“The opposition, meanwhile, expects Kaladze to perform Lazareoba,” he added, referring to a traditional Georgian ritual historically associated with invoking favorable weather conditions.

Ananidze’s remarks came amid criticism from opposition representatives over the municipal response to problems caused by heavy rainfall in Tbilisi.
