A protest is currently taking place near the First Building of Tbilisi State University (TSU), where gathered citizens and students are expressing their solidarity with Mate Dolidze, a detained student.
Protesters have set up a tent at the site, signaling their intention to remain in place. Demonstrators say the judicial system in Georgia has become a tool of the regime.
"The entire judicial system is now just a servant of the regime. The fact that so many people have come out spontaneously to protest in the streets of Tbilisi is a clear indicator that the public’s tolerance for injustice is extraordinarily low," one protest participant stated.
On June 11, Tbilisi City Court Judge Nino Galustashvili sentenced 21-year-old Mate Dolidze to 4 years and 6 months in prison. Dolidze was not present at the court hearing when the verdict was announced.
He was arrested during a protest held on November 19, 2024.
