Polish authorities have identified the individuals suspected of carrying out recent sabotage attacks on the country’s railway infrastructure, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Tuesday.
Tusk added the suspects are Ukrainian citizens who acted in the interests of Russian intelligence services.
“The intensive work of our agencies allowed us to identify those responsible for the railway sabotage. These are Ukrainian citizens cooperating with Russia”, Tusk said.
He added that one of the suspects is a Ukrainian national who was convicted in May by a court in Lviv for sabotage carried out on Ukrainian territory and is currently in Belarus.
Tusk said Poland continues to investigate possible coordination channels between the suspects and Russian structures, as well as the motives behind the operation.
The damaged section of railway was discovered on a major route leading toward the Ukrainian border. Tusk confirmed that the track, used to deliver aid to Ukraine, was damaged by an explosion. Train movement has since been fully restored.
