Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree establishing a new military command responsible for coordinating long-range strikes against targets inside Russia.
Announcing the decision, Zelenskyy said the new Long-Range Strike Command would operate within the Armed Forces of Ukraine and oversee strategic strike operations deep inside Russian territory.
The President added the command will be tasked with directing operations targeting Russia's military capabilities throughout the course of the war.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine's General Staff had been instructed to concentrate all available resources to maximise the effectiveness of the new command and further reduce Russia's military potential.
He added that the unit would be led by an experienced commander, although the appointment has not yet been announced.
Separately, Zelenskyy also signed an order establishing Ukraine's Joint Rapid Reaction Forces, a new component of the armed forces designed to enhance the military's ability to respond quickly to developments on the battlefield.
The President said the force will be commanded by Major General Dmytro Voloshyn, whom he described as an experienced military officer and a Hero of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy said the new formation will combine assault troops with drone units, artillery and other capabilities to create a modern, technology-driven force capable of rapid offensive and defensive operations along the front line.
