Lasha Khutsishvili, the Georgian finance minister, on Monday claimed the unemployment level had dropped to “historic minimum” in the country, challenging the view by the domestic opposition that “high migration” had affected the figures.

“The level of unemployment in Georgia is at a historical low, and it is important that the number of employed people has increased significantly, by about 70,000 people, and it has amounted to 1,271,000 employed in the country”, he said following the weekly government session.

The part of domestic opposition, however, accused the authorities of “cheating the public with unrealistic figures”, and noted “due to unbearable conditions and high prices” the youth was leaving the country mostly to the EU-member states or the US.
