British Ambassador to Georgia Gareth Ward has expressed deep concern over the escalating political crisis in Georgia. In a statement on Wednesday, he highlighted a series of alarming developments, including violence against opposition politicians, journalists, and protesters.

“In recent days, we have seen more extremely worrying developments in the political crisis in Georgia. Renewed violence against opposition politicians and arbitrary detention of journalists and protestors is unacceptable,” said Ward.

The Ambassador urged the Georgian Dream-led government to ensure accountability and uphold democratic values. “We call on the Georgian Dream authorities to hold those responsible to account. Georgia, as a fellow member of the Council of Europe, must protect its people’s right to fundamental freedoms,” he added.

Ward also emphasized the UK’s firm stance on the matter, noting that the United Kingdom, alongside other European partners, strongly condemned the recent violence during a session at the Council of Europe.
