European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has expressed strong support for the proposed 30-day full and unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, emphasizing its importance for paving the way toward meaningful peace negotiations.
“Today, the Coalition of the Willing convened. We support the proposal for a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire. It must be implemented without preconditions to pave the way for meaningful peace negotiations,” von der Leyen wrote on X.
She stressed that the responsibility now lies with Moscow: “The ball is now in Russia’s court.”
Von der Leyen also warned that the European Union is prepared to maintain pressure on Russia and introduce additional sanctions in case of a ceasefire violation.
“Our objective is clear: a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, which is vital for security and stability across our continent,” she added.
