Five US Congressmen visited the occupation line in the village of Odzisi, central Georgia, earlier today, which separates the country’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region from the rest of Georgia.

While looking beyond the occupation line Congressman Ronald Jean Estes said that it is one thing what one hears about the Russian occupation and its illegal activities in Georgia and it is quite another when he sees them with his own eyes.

He said that it is important for the Congressmen to familiarize themselves with the situation in the ‘ally country’ and to work together to find solutions.

Georgian Foreign Ministry and the State Security Service officials have stated that the Congressmen’s presence at the occupation line ‘reiterated the US’ strong support for Georgia and is the signal for Russia and the international community that Georgia is not alone’.

The US congressional delegation, composed of Alex Mooney, Bryan George Steil ,Kelly Armstrong, Carol Devine Miller and  Ronald Jean Estes, arrived in Georgia  earlier today to meet with Georgian top officials and visit the occupation line in the central Shida Kartli region of Georgia.

They are scheduled to meet with PM Irakli Garibashvili, ministers of defence, foreign affairs and economy and legislators.
