The US continues to support Georgia, but it also sees problems and these problems should be corrected, Sergi Kapanadze, an analyst in Georgia’s Reforms Associates – GRASS said on Thursday, in response to US Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s comments over “backsliding” of Georgian democracy.

He stated that the US “is well-aware” of the existing problems in Georgia, which the current Georgian Dream authorities “are trying to hide”.

“Pointing to the gap between the government and the people should be an alarming message for the government”, Kapanadze said.

“It is very important that the political spectrum correctly understands this message: that the US continues to support Georgia, but also sees problems and these issues should be corrected”.

The ruling party representatives have slammed the senator for her negative comments to the current Georgian government, calling them “unfounded claims” coming from the affiliates of the “radical wing” of the domestic opposition.
