The US Embassy in Georgia has urged the immediate release of individuals detained for exercising their rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.

In a meeting with the Georgian Public Defender, Ambassador Robin Dunnigan highlighted the critical role of the ombudsman’s office in safeguarding the rights of the Georgian people.

“Those responsible for brutal and unjustified violence—including against protesters, media representatives, and opposition members—must be held accountable,” the embassy stated.

The call for accountability comes amidst widespread reports of violence and detentions during ongoing protests. The embassy reiterated its commitment to supporting democratic principles and the protection of human rights in Georgia.
