Ukraine’s recent large-scale strike on Russian military airbases will be studied as an “exemplary” operation by general staffs around the world, Valeri Chechelashvili, the Head of Political Research at the Georgian Strategic Analysis Center, said on Monday.
He stressed the operation - believed to have destroyed more than 40 Russian military aircraft - has set a new precedent in modern warfare.
“To put one-third of Russia’s strategic aviation out with a single blow is an unthinkable achievement,” Chechelashvili said. “This was an exemplary operation. We have not seen anything like this before, either during this war or in past military conflicts.”
The operation targeted key Russian airbases and dealt what analysts are calling a significant blow to Moscow’s air power. While official confirmation from the Russian side remains limited, independent assessments suggest the scale of damage was substantial.
Chechelashvili also noted the geopolitical significance of Ukraine’s move, pointing out that Kyiv had reportedly informed the US administration in advance.
“The fact that the Ukrainians shared their plans with the Americans adds a strategic and diplomatic layer to this action,” he said. “I believe this will lead to a shift in how the United States and other Western partners engage with Ukraine going forward. Zelenskyy and his team clearly have serious cards in their hands.”
