“We have no small-state complex, but we pursue a pragmatic foreign policy” – Irakli Kirtskhalia

“We have no small-state complex, but we pursue a pragmatic policy. Pragmatism means understanding what you are capable of and determining the extent to which you can influence developments,” Georgian parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia said during an appearance on the television programme Open Air.

According to Kirtskhalia, Georgia’s strategic geographical position and its importance to the Middle Corridor will eventually make the country indispensable to major regional initiatives.

“Everyone is well aware of our geographical location and the crucial role of the Middle Corridor. Do you know how we respond to these attacks? Through strategic silence and a strategic smile, even when summits and forums are held to discuss economic development in the Black Sea region while our country is politically sidelined,” Kirtskhalia said.

“The time will come when major developments will no longer be possible without Georgia’s involvement. This is how we engage with the processes unfolding around the world, particularly in our region,” he added.
