The World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Europe and the UNICEF Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia are urging schools to open up and create a safe environment amid the coronavirus pandemic by taking steps to minimize the spread of the virus.
Georgian Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia stated earlier today that schools will not open in Georgia until the epidemiological situation is stabilised.
Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili says that the government expects a serious decrease in new infections starting October.
Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated last week that they will not recommend in-person studies until the infection rate of the two consecutive weeks is below the five percent.
Currently the rate is above 10 percent.
Georgia has reported 1,915 new cases of coronavirus, 5,929 recoveries and 78 deaths in the past 24 hours.
Currently 49,017 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia.
21,411 tests were conducted around the country in the past 24 hours.
10.44 per cent of tested individuals had Covid-19 in the past 14 days.
