Political analyst Zaal Anjaparidze has criticized Latvia's continued exports of alcoholic beverages to Russia, arguing that such trade undermines public declarations of support for Ukraine.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Anjaparidze claimed that Latvia became the largest supplier of vodka to Russia during the first quarter of 2026, with exports reportedly totaling approximately $2.6 million.
“Latvia - yes, the same Latvia whose leaders often criticize us - became the largest supplier of vodka to Russia in the first quarter of 2026. We are talking about exports worth $2.6 million,” Anjaparidze wrote.
He argued that countries continuing commercial trade with Russia while publicly supporting Ukraine face questions about the consistency of their policies.
“Then they come out and say they are helping Ukraine in every way they can,” he added.
Anjaparidze further questioned the broader implications of trade with Russia during the ongoing war in Ukraine, suggesting that revenues generated through such imports ultimately contribute to the Russian economy.
