The recent unification of the United National Movement (UNM) and several smaller parties it spawned has provided a political boost to the ruling Georgian Dream party, analyst Zaal Anjaparidze claimed on Tuesday.
Anjaparidze described the merger as a “predictable alliance under one umbrella,” arguing that voters now have a clearer picture of what to expect if these parties were to gain power.
“The architects of the ‘bloody nine years’ have reunited under a single coalition. Society now knows what to anticipate from them - essentially the same policies, but on a magnified scale,” Anjaparidze wrote on social media.
The analyst also highlighted the inclusion of the newly formed Freedom Square party, which previously promoted a “clean” record independent of the UNM’s past governance.
Anjaparidze contended the party shared similar values and worldview, “as well as foreign influence connections,” making its merger into the opposition bloc logical.
Anjaparidze suggested that the timing of the unification was influenced by external partners, who “encouraged” the parties to consolidate into a single alternative force that could be supported internationally.
