Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said China has issued a warning to Russia against any use of nuclear weapons, describing it as the first time Beijing has taken such a clear public position on the issue.
Zelenskyy said China's role in Russia's war against Ukraine was one of the central topics discussed during his meeting with US President Donald Trump.
According to Zelenskyy, the two leaders discussed Beijing's role in the conflict, its potential influence and its broader impact on the course of the war.
The President also said several European leaders had informed him about their contacts with Chinese representatives during the summit. He said Beijing had reacted strongly to reports circulated by Russian media suggesting the possible use of nuclear weapons in response to Ukrainian military strikes.
“It seems to me that this is the first time they have reacted so clearly and so firmly. As I was told, it came in the form of an ultimatum that there can be no discussion whatsoever about the use of nuclear weapons,” Zelenskyy said.
