Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the missile used in Russia’s deadly April 24 strike on Kyiv was a North Korean ballistic missile containing 116 foreign-made components, most of which originated from the United States.
In a statement shared on X, Zelenskyy said rescue operations at the strike site had only just concluded. The attack killed 12 people and injured nearly 90, with over 30 still hospitalized, some suffering from severe injuries and amputations.
He stressed that insufficient international pressure on both Russia and North Korea enables the production and use of such weapons, even in Europe. “The lack of sufficient pressure on Russia allows them to import such missiles and other weapons… The missile that killed civilians in Kyiv contained at least 116 components sourced from other countries,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy reiterated Ukraine’s calls for a full and unconditional ceasefire. He noted that Ukraine had agreed to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire across land, sea, and air 45 days ago, and had also asked Russia to stop attacks on civilian targets — a proposal that Russia rejected.
“This cannot be resolved without pressure,” Zelenskyy stated, emphasizing the need for continued global support and collective defense efforts.
