Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday said France is prepared to help Ukraine develop anti-ballistic missile systems following talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Zelenskyy said he thanked Macron for France’s “principled condemnation” of Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, adding that the strikes demonstrate “who Russia is” and why joint defence against common threats must be strengthened.
“France is ready to work on the creation of anti-ballistic missiles. This is a firm decision and an important step. We have already discussed strengthening our capabilities to repel Russian attacks. Thank you for the readiness to strengthen our air defence,” ” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president added that he discussed a wide range of issues with Macron during the conversation.
Zelenskyy also said Macron briefed him on his visits to African countries and the two leaders discussed the importance of co-ordination in that area.
“We agreed to maintain contacts in the near future,” Zelenskyy said.
