Ukraine is holding talks with the United States to acquire additional air defense systems, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced following another large-scale Russian attack overnight.
“This was a massive strike involving a large number of ballistic missiles, at least 25, as well as aero-ballistic and cruise missiles and more than 450 drones of various types. It was a brazen and largely demonstrative attack”, Zelenskyy said.
He noted that only a limited number of air defence systems worldwide were capable of intercepting the types of ballistic and aero-ballistic missiles used by Russia against Ukraine.
“We are working with our partners, especially the United States, to secure additional Patriot systems. We are counting on their continued support”, the President said.
Zelenskyy highlighted that significantly more air defence systems and missiles were needed to fully protect Ukrainian territory, expressing gratitude to all international partners assisting in strengthening Ukraine’s air defence.
The remarks come after Russia launched another massive combined attack on Ukraine overnight on November 8, using various types of missiles and drones targeting the country’s energy infrastructure. The strikes caused power outages and disruptions to critical facilities across several regions, with Kremenchuk among the hardest hit, temporarily left without electricity.
