Zelensky accuses Amnesty International of excusing Russian ‘terrorist state’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday slammed Amnesty International for excusing Russian acts of “terror” after the organisation said the Ukrainain militarty “were endangering civilians by establishing bases in residential locations”. 

In remarks to the recent report by the international non-governatl organisation on human rights based in the UK, Zelensky said that “amnesting the terrorist state and shift the responsibility from the aggressor to the victim”, was a “wrong move”.

“There is no condition, even hypothetically, under which any Russian strike on Ukraine becomes justified. Aggression against our state is unprovoked, invasive and terrorist,” Zelensky stressed. 

The Amnesty report, titled “Ukraine: Ukrainian fighting tactics endanger civilians,” was released on Thursday, raising accusations towards the Ukrainian military of having “put civilians in harm’s way,” while resisting the Russian invasion “by establishing bases and operating weapons systems in populated residential areas.”

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 of this year. 

Hostilities have been in progress since then.
