Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday arrived in the southern city of Kherson to celebrate its recapture from Russian troops after months of latter’s occupation.

He expressed hope that Russia’s retreat from the territory last week might mark the beginning of the end of the war which began in late February.

“We are moving forward,” Zelenskyy told reporters while in Kherson after addressing troops in front of the administration building in the main square.

“We are ready for peace, peace for all our country”, he stressed.

The president thanked NATO and other allies for their support and said the delivery of high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) from the US had made a “big difference” to Ukraine’s war effort.
