The US has a proposal to hold a new trilateral meeting between American, Ukrainian, and Russian negotiators as soon as possible in order to end the war. Possible negotiations between the leaders of the countries are also under consideration, – the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated.
According to the President, the meeting of the US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff with the Russian side on October 21 was important.
"We received feedback that Russia supports a trilateral meeting at the level of our teams. The American side proposes to do this as soon as possible. We support this," Zelenskyy said.
The President has not yet named the final date for this meeting.
"We spoke with our American partners. They will do everything to make it happen as early as possible, in November. I think no later than the beginning of November. Well, we will see, not everything depends on us.
The agenda is clear: ending the war, bringing peace closer, and preparing everything for a meeting at the level of leaders. This is very important for everyone. For us, at least for Ukraine, it is very important. We always emphasize this," Zelenskyy stated.
He outlined the directions that Ukraine will support.
"We will support the proposal for a ceasefire, for ending the war, for an energy truce, any kind of ceasefire in any case, as well as humanitarian initiatives, the return of prisoners, and diplomacy," the Ukrainian President stated.
In his opinion, the main initiative in all these negotiations and the main signal so far is positive.
"On our side, there is full support for the American proposals. We hope that this time it will be different from Russia's side – they have said many times that they are ready to meet in one format or another, but then something changed, was canceled, let's see how it goes this time," Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy believes that the main concept is to meet as early as possible, start working, and develop the "peace that we need."
