The deputy minister of education, science and youth, Zviad Gabisonia, has said a new government decree on student quotas at state universities will not affect those already enrolled.

Gabisonia said on Friday claims circulating in some media outlets and among opposition figures that the measure would apply to current students were “entirely false”.

“I would like to emphasise that the government decree does not apply to current students at state universities and will concern only those applicants who enrol in state higher education institutions from the 2026-2027 academic year,” he said.

He added that the dissemination of such information amounted to deliberate disinformation aimed at misleading the public, particularly students.
