Georgia has marked five years since the 2021 Batumi building collapse that claimed the lives of nine people, including three children.

Adjara government chairman Zurab Pataradze and his wife attended a memorial service at St Barbara’s Church in Batumi to honour those who died in the tragedy.

Family members of the victims, the chairman of the Adjara Supreme Council, the mayor of Batumi and representatives of the regional and local authorities also attended the service.

On 8 October 2021, one section of a residential building on 26 May Street in Batumi collapsed in the morning, killing nine people.

Three of the victims were children, while four of those killed were members of the same family.
