Former National Bank President Kadagidze transferred to detention center following protest arrest

Former President of the National Bank of Georgia, Giorgi Kadagidze, who was arrested during a protest on Sunday, has been transferred to the Dusheti Municipality detention center in eastern Georgia. The information was confirmed by his lawyer, Shota Kadagidze.

According to the lawyer, Kadagidze is being investigated under Article 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, which pertains to disobedience to a lawful order or request from a law enforcement officer or another authorized state representative while performing official duties.

Kadagidze was detained during the protest near the Vakhushti Bridge on the waterfront against the Government’s decision last year to halt EU integration until 2028.

His arrest was part of a larger crackdown by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which detained a total of 31 individuals during the February 2 demonstration. According to authorities, administrative proceedings have been initiated against all those arrested.

Reports indicate that the majority of the detainees have already been released from custody after signing required documents, while Kadagidze remains in detention.
