UNM opposition party to give members greater role in decision-making

Georgia's opposition United National Movement (UNM) plans to introduce a mechanism allowing party members to participate directly in decision-making on major issues, while seeking to strengthen the party's financial independence through public donations, senior party member Anna Tsitlidze said on Tuesday.

Tsitlidze noted the new mechanism was designed to make the party "more of a people's party" by ensuring that important decisions were made with broad participation from its membership.

She also said the party was placing greater emphasis on financial independence through donations from supporters.

According to Tsitlidze, thousands of UNM supporters have already contributed to the party, highlighting donations from members of the Georgian diaspora, many of whom contribute 5, 10 or 20 lari to support the party and its goals.
