Anri Okhanashvili on Saturday announced his resignation as Head of Georgia’s State Security Service, saying he would continue his work as the Prime Minister’s adviser on national security issues.

“I would like to inform the public that, following consultations with the ruling team, I have decided to resign from the post of Head of Georgia’s State Security Service and assume the position of the Prime Minister’s adviser on national security issues”, he said in a social media post.

Okhanashvili thanked the ruling team and its founder Bidzina Ivanishvili for their trust and support, noting his nine years in public service were dedicated to protecting Georgia’s national interests.

He said his new role would focus on analysing global and regional security challenges and providing recommendations to the Government.
