Georgia has appointed Giorgi Zakarashvili as its Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday.

Zakarashvili will take up the post on 1 October 2026, after completing his current term as Georgia’s ambassador to Ukraine and permanent representative to the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM.

He has held the Ukraine post since 2021. Before that, Zakarashvili served as director of the Political Department at Georgia’s Foreign Ministry from 2019 to 2021. From 2016 to 2019, he headed Georgia’s Interests Section at the Embassy of Switzerland in Russia.

He has also held senior positions within the Foreign Ministry, including head of its Central Asian division.
