Foreign national arrested in Georgia’s Batumi for attempted murder of family member

Police in Georgia’s Black Sea resort city of Batumi have arrested a foreign national on charges of attempted premeditated murder of a family member under aggravating circumstances, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.
The body added officers from the Batumi City Division of the Adjara Police Department detained a woman born in 1988, identified as M.S., following an incident involving a member of his family.
The investigation established that the suspect attacked her partner, a foreign national born in 1991 with whom she was in an unregistered marital relationship, inflicting stab wounds to the chest area with a knife in Batumi. The victim was taken to hospital to receive urgent medical treatment.
Police arrested the suspect at the scene shortly after the incident. The weapon allegedly used in the attack, a knife, was seized as evidence.
An investigation has been launched under Article 19-109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of between 16 and 20 years’ imprisonment or life imprisonment.
