Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže has said the Georgian public wants the country to become part of Europe, but the government has failed to take the necessary steps towards that goal.

Speaking ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on Monday, Braže said the situation in Georgia had not changed.

“Georgian people want to be part of Europe. Unfortunately, the government has not taken the necessary steps,” she said.

Braže said she could not predict the outcome of the discussions, as EU foreign ministers were due to hear presentations from both the European External Action Service and the European Commission.

She also stressed that Georgia had not been excluded from international processes.
