UK Approves Transfer of Storm Shadow Technology to Ukraine for Domestic Missile Production

Ukraine will be able to produce Storm Shadow long-range missiles domestically after the United Kingdom approved the transfer of relevant technology and agreed to involve British and French defence companies in the programme, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said.

Speaking during a visit to Kyiv, Burnham said Britain was the first country to provide Ukraine with long-range weapons in 2023. He added that President Volodymyr Zelensky had requested access to Storm Shadow technology so Ukraine could develop the capability independently.

“I am pleased to confirm today that I have agreed to that request. British and French industry, and we also thank President Macron and his colleagues will now work with Ukraine to develop this capability,” Burnham said.

The British prime minister said Russian President Vladimir Putin was seeking to prevail through what he described as a campaign of terror involving ballistic missile attacks against Ukrainian civilians.

“We must stop Russian missiles, first through sanctions that disrupt their supply chains, and also by supporting Ukraine’s long-range campaign,” Burnham said.
