A unity march titled We See You is underway in Tbilisi, Georgia, with participants marching from the Medical University metro station toward the Special Investigation Service and the State Security Service (SSS).
According to the organizers, the march aims to protest state violence and government inaction amid increasing crackdowns on civic freedoms.
“Over the past few months, more than 300 citizens of Georgia have been beaten, tortured, and detained for seeking freedom, development, and a better future. Police forces, the Special Investigation Service, and the State Security Service are not only inactive – they are complicit in a covert operation to strip Georgia of its independence,” the statement reads.
The organizers describe the current government as illegitimate and accuse it of intentionally weakening the country.
“The regime’s goal is to empty and weaken Georgia. Our goal is to strengthen and develop it.”
Protesters are demanding the resignation of what they call an “illegitimate government” and the release of all “political prisoners held by the regime.”
The demonstration is one of several civic actions that have taken place recently amid growing public dissent in Georgia.
