The Ambassador of Denmark, Anne Toft Sørensen, on Thursday joined Nordic and Baltic counterparts in paying tribute to the victims of the April 9 tragedy.

The diplomats laid flowers at the April 9 memorial in the capital city of Tbilisi, honouring those killed during the 1989 crackdown on peaceful demonstrators.

In a statement, the Danish embassy noted that April 9 is observed as a day of national unity in Georgia, marking the tragic events when Soviet troops violently dispersed protesters demanding freedom and independence.

“Two years after these events, Georgia restored its independence,” the statement said.

The embassy reaffirmed Denmark’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, underscoring continued backing from Nordic and Baltic partners.
