Matikashvili claimed that the Helsinki Commission, under the influence of the US Department of State, had become a mechanism to attack a country’s democracy

Davit Matikashvili, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, has responded to a statement by the Helsinki Commission regarding the verdict against Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the Droa party.

Matikashvili claimed that the Helsinki Commission, under the influence of the US Department of State, had become a mechanism to attack a country’s democracy.

“In the case of Elene Khoshtaria, it is clear. The individual has been found guilty of multiple legal violations and has acknowledged them herself. Yet the message coming from the Helsinki Commission is asymmetrically detached from reality. This is another example of an attempt to interfere in Georgia’s internal affairs.”
