Tbilisi lights up for holidays as main Christmas tree is illuminated

Tbilisi’s main Christmas tree was lit on Rustaveli Avenue on Monday evening, accompanied by the activation of holiday illuminations across the city.

As announced earlier by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, the capital’s annual tradition of switching on Christmas lights in early December continues this year, despite recent tensions.

“This evening, the city’s illuminations and the main Christmas tree will light up without a formal event,” said Kaladze during a press briefing. “The New Year is a beloved holiday for everyone, and we will not allow anyone to take away the joy and happiness it brings to our children and fellow citizens. Tbilisi will be the most beautiful holiday city, with numerous festive events planned. We will welcome 2025 as we deserve – with hope for peace, progress, and new victories.”

The festive lighting marks the start of a celebratory season in Georgia’s capital, promising joy and togetherness for its residents.
