Georgian PM to attend NATO Madrid summit on Tuesday

The Georgian delegation headed by the country’s PM Irakli Garibashvili will attend a NATO Madrid summit on June 28-30, where the PM was invited by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg earlier this month, Garibashvili confirmed on Monday.

"Tomorrow starts the NATO Summit, where a government delegation will travel under my leadership. We will take part in the NATO Summit. I was personally invited there by the Secretary General and we expect that all the progress that our country has made will be appreciated and recognized,” Garibashvili said.

He stated that he would hold meetings with various European leaders on the sidelines of the event.

“ I believe that the country has made great progress in terms of integration with NATO. We have opened a joint training center with NATO in Krtsanisi and I think that the country has done everything to increase the compatibility of our troops. We are strengthening the army, carrying out reforms,” Garibashvili suggested.

On June 21, the Government’s Communications Service released a letter sent by NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg  to Garibashvili, inviting him to the summit.
