German FM “out of touch with reality” - ruling party sec-gen

Kakha Kaladze, the secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream party and Tbilisi mayor, on Thursday said Annalena Baerbock, the foreign minister of Germany scheduled to visit Tbilisi later today, “is out of touch with reality”.

Kaladze’s comment came following the German official’s remarks prior to her departure that her first trip to Georgia was related to the country’s European integration process amid “attempts” to derail the country from its western course “supported by the absolute majority of Georgians”.

"This is a continuation of the course and the line that we have been hearing about Georgia for the last few days, an absolute lie. The Georgian authorities are doing their utmost for the implementation of the 12-pont conditions outlined by the European Commission last year for the country to obtain the bloc’s membership candidate status”, Kaladze said.

Baerbock is scheduled to meet with prime minister Irakli Garibashvili, president Salome Zourabichvili and her counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili while in Tbilisi, before meeting with students, the members of the opposition and the civil sector and visiting the occupation line in central Georgia.

She is scheduled to leave Georgia later on Friday.
