Former wanted defence minister announces actions against BBC to counter its fraud allegations

David Kezerashvili, the Georgian wanted former defence minister in the United National Movement government, on Wednesday said he would take legal actions to “prove the inaccuracy” of the BBC investigative piece on his alleged participation in a fraudulent scheme.

He said despite the fact he considered the British Public Broadcasting as a media outlet of high journalistic standard, that was the case when he had “many questions” with the publication about issues related to him.

“ I declare with absolute responsibility that I have never participated in such schemes, therefore I am not going to ignore the damage that this material causes me, especially in the background when politicized justice is being carried out against me by the Georgian authorities, and against the television company Formula created with my participation”, he said.

Kezerashvili noted he would use “all legal leverage to prove both the inaccuracy of the facts and the false assumptions made as a result of their misinterpretation in the material aired on the British Public Broadcasting platform, and it will not take long”.

“I have also always expressed my readiness, and I am still ready,  to cooperate with the investigation structures of European countries on the subject of call centers, especially since my place of residence as a person in political exile is Great Britain, whose justice system no one doubts," Kezerashvili said.

A fraudulent scheme known as call centers, refers to certain persons who had fraudulently obtained large amounts of money belonging to citizens of different countries, more precisely, they contacted citizens of foreign countries according to a pre-developed plan, with fictitious names, provided false information about the location of their company and offered securities, shares , participating in electronic trading of commodity assets, currencies and cryptocurrencies using electronic platforms created by the criminal group.
