Mother says Saakashvili’s condition “very complicated”

Giuli Alasania, mother of the currently imprisoned former president Mikheil Saakashvili, on Wednesday said the condition of his son was “very complicated”, it was difficult for him to move, with his hair falling out.

“He still has a temperature, high blood pressure. It is very difficult for him to move because there is no muscle tissue. He has no hair left”, Alasania told journalists.

Saakashvili, who currently holds Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested in Tbilisi in October 2021 after eight years in self-imposed political exile.

He has been undergoing treatment in the Tbilisi Vivamedi civilian clinic since May 2022.

The Tbilisi City Court andthe Court of Appeals both rejected his motion earlier this year on release on medical grounds.
