Traffic restrictions announced in central Tbilisi for welcoming ceremony of national football team

A welcoming ceremony for the Georgian national football team will be held at Freedom Square in Tbilisi, leading to traffic restrictions, Tbilisi City Hall announced on Tuesday. 

12:00 to 17:00: Partial restriction on Freedom Square. Vehicles from Rustaveli Avenue will not be able to enter the square to drive towards Baratashvili Street. Drivers can turn around near Pushkin Square and return to Rustaveli Avenue.


17:00 on July 2 to 00:00 on July 3: Complete prohibition of vehicle movement on Freedom Square. Traffic will be limited from Kote Abkhazi and Pushkin streets, and the section from Rustaveli Avenue to April 9 Street.


During these hours, public transport will be rerouted through Mikheil Javakhishvili Street to Baratashvili Street and vice versa, including connections via Merab Kostava streets.


Transport on the Tbilisi-Kojori highway will stop at Amagleba Street N11 and serve passengers from the same location.


Fans will welcome the national team players at Freedom Square. The event starts at 22:00.

The team has made history through playing at Euro 2024. Georgia lost to Spain in the round of 16 on Sunday. 

Part of the public, who waited for the national team at Tbilisi airport, have expressed their dissatisfaction as the players were immediately transported from the venue.
