Man arrested in Tbilisi over ₾73,000 computer fraud

Police in Tbilisi have arrested one person on suspicion of unlawfully interfering with a computer system in order to obtain financial gain, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on Monday.

The suspect allegedly created an electronic wallet account on an online platform using another person’s personal data, with the aim of illegally obtaining a large financial benefit.

The suspect then allegedly gained unauthorised access to a computer system and generated and credited up to GEL 73,000 from another account to the electronic wallet he had created. The ministry said he subsequently used the funds himself.

The crime carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
