One million Georgian lari has already been raised during the Protect Iliauni live fundraising marathon for children diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

“We have raised 1,000,000 GEL.

One million - an amount that once sounded impossible. A sum collected by the Georgian people through love, unity, and solidarity.

This one million lari means respiratory support devices, adapted beds and wheelchairs, medications, essential surgeries and physiotherapy treatments, and most importantly - a chance for children living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy to continue their daily fight,” the “Protect Iliauni” movement wrote on social media.

Parents of children affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy have been holding continuous protests outside the Government Administration building in Tbilisi for the past month, demanding access to medication for their children.

Around 100 children in Georgia are currently registered with a diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The disease is a severe genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle degeneration from an early age and ultimately leads to fatal complications.
