Polish President Andrzej Duda has emphasized that bringing the war in Ukraine to a just end remains crucial for Poland and its people. Speaking to Polsat News following a high-profile meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump at the Vatican, Duda underlined that Polish national interests are his top priority.
“It is in Poland’s and the Polish people’s interest for this war to end with a just peace,” Duda said. “It will provide us with guarantees so that we can truly develop in peace, without fearing attacks,” he added.
The meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump took place on April 26 during the funeral of Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21. The Vatican ceremony drew thousands of mourners and about 50 world leaders. Zelenskyy and Trump held a personal conversation during the event — their first since a tense exchange during a White House meeting on February 28.
Commenting on the encounter, Duda expressed hope that the special atmosphere of the Vatican could inspire new initiatives to help bring an end to the conflict. “I hope that there is a special spirit during the meeting that could inspire new decisions and ideas to help end this war,” he said.
