A protest is underway outside the Ministry of Education in Tbilisi, led by students, teachers, and civil society activists.

Participants say the ruling party’s recent decision, which allows Ilia University to accept about 300 students instead of 4,000 in the next academic year, effectively signals the closure of the education facility and constitutes a move to degrade education in Georgia.

“These actions aim to significantly lower the quality of education in the country, even destroy it, which only benefits the regime, as many educated people are a problem for them. We will not accept this and will continue to fight,” one protester said.
