Georgian law enforcement officers have arrested four foreign nationals on charges of illegally importing, purchasing and possessing large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.
The body added the suspects include one Turkish citizen and three Israeli citizens, who were arrested in separate operations by officers of the Central Criminal Police Department's Adjara Main Division and the Revenue Service's Customs Department.
Police said searches of the suspects and their carry-on luggage at Batumi International Airport and nearby areas led to the seizure of large and especially large quantities of various drugs, including MDMA, marijuana, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Officers also confiscated a large quantity of the psychotropic substance pregabalin.
The alleged offenses are punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
