Four arrested in Georgia over drug trafficking, illegal import

Four people, including three foreign nationals, have been detained in Georgia on allegations of illegally acquiring, possessing and importing particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, the Interior Ministry said.

The arrests were carried out at Tbilisi and Kutaisi international airports by officers from the Interior Ministry’s Central Criminal Police Department and the Revenue Service’s Customs Department.

Officers found the substances during searches of the suspects’ hand luggage and personal searches. More than 150 grams of cocaine was seized, along with 359 tablets containing methylphenidate and codeine, 206 pregabalin tablets and 17 Lyrica tablets.

The offences carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
