Georgia, Kyrgyzstan security officials discuss closer cooperation during minister's visit

Georgia's State Security Service chief Geka Geladze has met Kyrgyz Interior Minister Ulan Niyazbekov during the minister's official visit to Georgia, with the two sides discussing bilateral security cooperation and ways to strengthen ties.

The State Security Service on Friday said the officials reviewed the existing partnership between Georgia and Kyrgyzstan and prospects for further cooperation between the two countries.

The talks focused on security challenges arising against the backdrop of global developments and the importance of close cooperation between the two countries' security and law enforcement agencies.

The sides also highlighted the significance of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's official visit to Kyrgyzstan in June, with Geladze saying the visit would give "new impetus" to bilateral relations.

The two officials expressed hope that joint efforts would further strengthen ties between Georgia and Kyrgyzstan.

Separately, Niyazbekov, who is visiting Georgia at the invitation of Interior Minister Sulkhan Tamezashvili, visited the Public Safety Management Centre 112 together with members of his delegation.

The Kyrgyz delegation was briefed on the centre's main functions and operating procedures, including the management of emergency calls received through Georgia's unified emergency number.

The visitors also received information about video surveillance systems used to improve road safety and electronic monitoring systems designed to prevent violence against women and domestic violence.
