Member of the Coalition for Change, Gela Khasaia, on Monday expressed solidarity with all detained protesters, urging unity and perseverance in a letter released from prison.
“Greetings from cell 98 in Gldani. I was prepared and fully aware that this could happen, that I might end up in prison - and I am mentally ready for it,” Khasaia wrote.
Describing his experience behind bars as “strange,” Khasaia said he remains confident that his imprisonment, as well as that of others, is temporary. “I believe I will soon return to normal life together with other prisoners of the regime,” he noted.
He thanked those who participated in the recent demonstrations, saying, “Thank you to everyone who came out on the 4th, and to those who blocked Rustaveli Avenue on the 5th. Being on Rustaveli is where I want to be.”
Khasaia urged protesters not to lose focus or allow the government to take satisfaction from internal divisions: “My request is — replace me and keep walking on Rustaveli. My solidarity to all detainees. This is not the time to turn against each other; on the contrary, our strength lies in unity.”
“Thank you to everyone who stands by me and supports me. Everything will be fine,” Khasaia concluded.
