Georgia remains on stable footing, with economic growth preserved, placing the country among the regional leaders, Parliament Deputy Speaker Gia Volski said on Saturday.
Volski made the remarks in response to a UN report projecting that Georgia will lead the Caucasus region in economic growth in 2026, with a 5.4 percent growth rate surpassing neighbouring countries as well as Ukraine (2.3 percent) and Moldova (2.5 percent).
Volski noted that the growth rate could have been even higher if it were not for the “multifaceted assaults” on the country.
“We sympathise with Ukraine and strongly support efforts to restore its economy. Despite that destruction, economic growth ensures stability and shows a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Here, we are talking about growth from negative to positive — from a devastated, ground-level economy — and even modest gains are a good sign,” Volski said.
Commenting on Georgia’s own economy, he added: “Factually, we are in a leading position by this indicator. It would be even better if not for the multifaceted assaults, including the mobilisation of internal extremist forces against the economy and stability. Nevertheless, this should also be assessed politically, as it leads to certain conclusions. Georgia stands strong, maintains stability, and preserves economic growth, ranking among the regional leaders.”
