Giorgi Baramidze, one of the leaders of the opposition United National Movement, on Tuesday said the ruling authorities are pursuing policies that, he claims, threaten the country’s sovereignty and align with Russian interests.
Baramidze alleged that the Government’s actions contradict its earlier rhetoric on protecting national independence.
“They spoke about sovereignty, but now we see they want the country to lose its sovereignty, independence and freedom. This is a plan written in the Kremlin,” he said.
Baramidze further claimed that the interests of ruling party founder and honorary chair Bidzina Ivanishvili and Russian President Vladimir Putin are aligned, arguing that both seek to weaken Georgia economically and politically.
He described the ruling party as a group focused primarily on retaining power for its own benefit rather than serving national interests. Baramidze added the past 13 years have demonstrated that the leadership is not committed to safeguarding Georgia’s future.
“Their interest is for Georgia to collapse economically, to be weakened and to lose its sovereignty,” he said.
